Memorial Day unofficially kicks off the summer and there is no shortage of things to do in Brooklyn this weekend! With Fleet Week in full swing, there is plenty of opportunity to get out and enjoy all that Brooklyn has to offer while celebrating the branches of our nation’s sea services.

With about 6,000 Navy, Marine, and Coast Guard servicemen coming into port, Fleet Week New York has a whole line up of activities. The USCG Willow and USCG Seneca, along with the coalition ships, will be docked in Brooklyn at the Port Authority Piers 7 and 8, and will be open for touring each weekend day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Greenpoint Veterans Memorial Parade will take place on Sunday, May 27 and the Kings County Memorial Parade will be Monday, May 28 – both in Brooklyn as well.

Other fun things to do for families and individuals alike include the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights and the Williamsburg Waterfront. These locations, right on the East River, will provide a great view of the ships against the Manhattan skyline, plus you’ll be able to see some of the air demonstrations over the city. Both are perfect areas to take a leisurely stroll and people watch as well. For more information on these weekend activities, check out the following websites:
