If there is one thing that we celebrate here in Brooklyn, it’s talent. We love it, in any shape or form. We also celebrate equality, and this month, top of our list of things to do in Brooklyn is to check out the Gowanus Girls pop up markets.

Hosted by established NY group, Curious Jane, Gowanus Girls seeks to highlight the following magic formula; girls + design + community, and in this case, the result is what is surely going to be an inspirational success story. If you are stuck for things to do in Brooklyn, head on down to the market, to visit the many stalls created by locally based creative females, including Bite-Size Kitchen, JWhite Designs, Love of Pretty and many more.

Curious Jane was originally established by leading light, Samantha Razook Murphy, who, with two daughters herself, had an ardent desire to place women at the forefront of creativity and design. The focus behind Curious Jane, and indeed, the Gowanus Girls markets, is to place emphasis on female-led businesses and allow females a chance to gain the recognition they truly deserve.

So, enough about the ladies, what exactly can visitors expect from the pop up markets? Well, it isn’t just about the shopping, though keen shoppers can expect to see a number of hard-to-resist items for sale on the stalls. Gowanus Girls is also all about the experience, and, in the perfect location, overlooking the canal, visitors can stroll through the market, whilst sipping at a sangria or beer and listening to some fantastic live acoustic music. No siree, this is not just about the buying. As far as things to do in Brooklyn go, this isn’t any old market, but a truly relaxing experience to while away the afternoon, come rain or shine.

Curious Jane will also be hosting events to entertain the kids, and there will be numerous food stalls, offering up some of the most delectable locally crafted nibbles for you to enjoy as you peruse at leisure.

So, make a note of these dates for your diary: 13th and 27th October, at Gowanus Grove, 400 Carroll Street. Come prepared and ready to see some of the finest creative female talent in the city, to enjoy some truly fine food and drink and to kick back and enjoy a truly unique experience. As far as things to do in Brooklyn go, this event is really first class. Let’s hear it for the girls indeed!
